CUIB Community begins Lent with Ash Wednesday celebration.
Faculty, Staff and Students of the Catholic University Institute of Buea, have today Wednesday 17th February 2021 joined the entire Roman Catholic community to celebrate Ash Wednesday that marks the beginning of Lent.
The mass in the CUIB main campus in Buea was officiated by Rev. Fr. Pascal Siben the school Chaplain while in Douala satellite campus the mass was officiated by Rev. Fr. Mai Edwin.
Rev. Fr. Mai Edwin told the entire CUIB Douala community that, Ash Wednesday reminds us that we were made by dust and unto dust we shall return, reasons why the Ash is placed on our forehead. He says we should use this period to prepare ourselves spiritually. According to Father Mai, the faculty, staff and students have three tools to use during this period of Lent which include; Prayer, Alms giving and Fasting.
By prayer, he said “we must learn how to pray . The gospel of today tells us to pray in silence, meditate, and focus our minds to God. We also need to be calm while praying. We have to always create time to pray.”
By alms giving, he noted that “We have to convert our launch, take the money and give it as alms or thanks given which can be done privately to those in need or the church” He also told the university community that, in fasting we should not make everyone around us to know we are fasting but we should fast in silence while performing our task that is; lectures should and students should do their school task.
In Buea, Rev. Fr. Siben Pascal reminded the CUIB community to understand the importance of the three duties of a Christian during this period of Lent which is Fasting, Prayer and alms giving. He concluded that Lent is a time of warfare that we are made to realize that we have to go into the battle by combating three main sources of temptation that is; world, the flesh and the devil.
