Parents’ weekend is a flagship tradition in the Catholic University Institute Buea (CUIB) wherein parents are invited on campus to share in their children’s life experiences in school in the areas of Academics, entrepreneurship, spiritual, social lifestyle.
CUIB being an Entrepreneurial University with mission to prepare professional Servants Leaders with spiritual and moral values, who will contribute to the sustainable development of their community, sees parents weekend as an important activity of the school which help bridge the gap between parents and the school administrators.
In the CUIB Entrepreneurial training model, Parents are an integral part to their children’s learning experience. CUIB model emphasize that, when parents are engaged in their children’s education, children have a better attendance, increased motivation and a better self-esteem. They feel more confident and are spurred to learn more.
The parents’ weekend for the 2017/2018 Academic year ran for two days that is, Friday April 13th 2018 to Sunday April 15th 2018 with the activities as follows:
During the first day, parents were welcomed to Buea by their children and had to spend time with their children at their individual mini cites to have a taste of their personal lives while away from Home.
On day 2, all parents were welcomed at the CUIB campus in Molyko for a juicier program which began with the sophomore (Level 200) Convocation Ceremony; followed by a deliberation meeting with the Parents, Staff, Faculty and Students at the levels of their different schools.
The Parents were taken on a touristic tour where they visited the CUIB main Campus at Wokaka, the 50th Anniversary Monument, the Parliamentary Flat, Tole Tea and many other places within the Buea Municipality.
The Parents’ Weekend was crowned with a thanksgiving mass on Sunday, April 15th 2018 wherein some parents communed with the University community in a Holy Mass to thank God for a successful Weekend of activities with parents.
