CUIB graduates 183 students with flying colours

and admits the installation of new management and 10th anniversary.



The Catholic University Institute of Buea on Saturday 12 December 2020 officially sent out over 180 students into the society in four different programs after being found worthy both in character and in learning within their four year stay in the Growth Mindset institution.

The graduation ceremony which took place under strict respect of barrier measures against the novel coronavirus also witnessed the cutting of the 10th year anniversary cake and the official installation ceremony of the new management of CUIB appointed by the Apostolic Administrator of Buea Diocese cum Chancellor/Pro-Chancellor of CUIB His Lordship Micheal Bibi.

The ceremony began with a thanksgiving mass that was presided over by His Lordship Michael Bibi who used his homily to thank God for the lives of the graduating students, faculty, staff, and partners of CUIB and for his guidance and protection upon their lives.  

His Lordship Michael Bibi also thanked God for the lives of the former management of CUIB Rev.Fr George Nkeze and his team to have given them the strength, knowledge and protection to manage the university.The Bishop reminded the graduating students of their responsibilities in serving humanity with all their hearts and advised them to put spirituality and morality in all they do as they go out to create and seek for jobs in a polarised world. He said they should use the values that CUIB implanted in them to transform society in a positive way that will add value to humanity.

The students were Christened the “Batch of Determination” by His Lordship Michael Bibi during his homily in which he articulated that this was the batch that came into CUIB in 2016 welcomed by the Anglophone crisis one month late and forced to learn in very difficult conditions amidst the crisis.

The second part of the event began with an academic procession which was led by the university marshal, crowned by the president and the Chancellor/Pro-Chancellor of the university.

During the official installation ceremony, the profiles of the members of the new team were read to the entire population and the Chancellor/Pro-Chancellor Michael Bibi installed the President Professor Victor Julius Ngoh and handed over to him the Mace of the university which represents the symbol of authority.

He congratulated Professor Ngoh and his team for their team work and new innovations that they have instituted within a short period of time following their appointment which has helped place the university ahead of other private and government universities despite facing numerous challenges following their appointment. He enjoined them to continue with their good work in promoting the mission and vision of the university.

The President of CUIB Professor Ngoh in his welcome speech appreciated the Chancellor/Pro-Chancellor for believing in them and noted that they will continue to promote the mission and vision of the institution.

The president continued by giving an excellent statistic as to the number of students admitted this year which has more than doubled as compared to last year with an increase in the number of MBA students, reintroduction of HND and resit examination which permitted some students with carry over to graduate.He told the students that they have been given the knowledge and values to go and create more jobs and help solve the problems of our society with spirituality and morality at the centre of their lives.

The Guest Speaker Roland Fomundam, CEO of Green House Venture Ltd during his academic discourse called on the graduating students to remain positive and believe in themselves by seeing opportunities in any challenges that they would face as they move up the hills of job creation and job seeking.He told them that Cameroon has a lot of potential, so they should make use of the opportunities that are in the country especially in the domain of Agriculture and entrepreneurship.

The students were then awarded their degrees followed by the award of special prizes to meritorious graduates donated by NFC bank and the Chancellor-Pro Chancellor. Prizes were also awarded to the longest serving staff of the university since its creation in 2010.

The graduation ceremony was concluded with the cutting of the CUIB 10 year anniversary cake by the Chancellor/Pro Chancellor accompanied by the President and the representative of the South West governor.

The best graduating students Eyong-Ashu Ashuymanyor in the School of Business under the Department of Banking and Finance scored a cumulative GPA of 3.94/4.0.He used his valedictorian speech to thank CUIB management for not giving up on the students like other universities did when the Anglophone crisis started and said the CUIB’s new method of learning helped the students to continue with their class uninterrupted.He concluded that they will be brand ambassadors of CUIB in all they do.
