The Center for Digital Services (CDS) is a unit of the
Catholic University Institute with the prime goal of providing information and
communication technology related support to the entire university. We serve
students, faculty and staff.
This in summary entails: maintaining the entire campus intranet (LAN);
providing internet services to student, staff and faculty; provides and
maintains telephony services to offices for smooth voice intercommunication
between offices; designs and maintains the university website, and other
sub-sites in the schools web-domain; maintenance office computers, switches,
printers and photocopiers.
Impact of CDS
Since its creation in 2014, CDS has been very steadfast in its mission, which has been “To create a paperless university”. In this vein, we have been very preoccupied with building web applications, and designing information systems which permit the reduction of paper usage on campus.
This has happened with the full implementation and usage of the Online Course Registration (OCR) Portal, by all the schools of the university. This portal goes a long way to enable online application for prospective students, online registration of courses by enrolled students, and most importantly provides an entire online classroom management system for lecturers. The changing educational landscape, plagued by the socio-political crisis has made our unit very critical, and always solution searching.
The entire financial process has equally been computerized seamlessly, with the student/faculty management system (OCR).
We have equally been able to electronically track employee attendance in the Molyko Campus, and we are gradually working towards implementing a similar solution in the Wokaka Campus. The CDS team equally worked hard to develop a low cost standard Internet room and Internet hotspot access points at Wokaka, which permits students, faculty and staff to gain access to the Internet.
