The Catholic University Institute of Buea (CUIB), observes the 2025 Recollection day, both in Buea and Douala campuses.
The faculty, staff and students of the Douala campus, under the guidance of its Campus Minister, Rev. Fr. Tapang Marius,MHM, these day was observed on the theme: “God proves his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.“
The day began with the Stations of the Cross, a pilgrimage walk to Saint Gabriel’s Parish. Following this, Rev. Fr. Bangsi Elvis of the Buea Diocese (Modeka Parish) delivered a spiritual discourse to the CUIB Douala students, faculty, and staff.
Fr. Bangsi’s reflection focused on “Embracing the Cross of Christ,” reminding the university community that challenges are inherent to Christian life. He emphasized that by embracing Christ, these burdens become His, referencing God’s invitation “Come to me, all you who are heavily laden, and I will give you rest.” He urged participants to bring their worries to Christ, affirming that while challenges are part of Christianity, Christ offers the path to overcoming them.
An interactive question-and-answer session followed, addressing students’ personal, spiritual, and social concerns.
The recollection concluded with a thanksgiving Mass led by Rev. Fr. Marius, who encouraged the university community to embrace Christ during Holy Week and integrate Him into their lives
Similarly, while the faculty and staff of the Buea Campus observed this day at the Landmark Diocesan Recollection Center (Our Lady of Grace Shrine, Sasse), the students of the Buea Campus led by Father Thiery , observed this day at St. Peter and Paul’s Parish, departing campus at 9:00 AM. The event was spiritually enriching and well-organized, offering students an opportunity for reflection, growth, and renewal.
The recollection began with the Stations of the Cross, setting a solemn and meditative tone. This was followed by a talk from Father Emmanuel, who delivered the central message of the day. His teaching focused on the meaning of a retreat and recollection, its purpose, and how to properly engage in it. He also delved into a thoughtful reflection on the virtues and vices of life, encouraging students to examine their personal spiritual journeys.
At 12:00 PM, the students actively participated in the Holy Mass, after which there was a Q&A session where they posed insightful questions. The day continued with confessions and personal meditation, allowing for deep individual reflection.
The recollection concluded with final blessings and a return to campus at 1:30 PM.
