CUIB Commissions 139 Graduates as Innovators and Ethical Leaders
The Catholic University Institute of Buea (CUIB) celebrated its Commencement Ceremony for 139 graduands, marked by a call to ethical leadership, innovation, and global transformation. The President of CUIB, Rev. Fr. Bartholomew Anyanwu, delivered a powerful charge to the graduating class, urging them to remain bold and innovative as they embark on their professional journeys.
Addressing the assembly, Rev. Fr. Anyanwu emphasized the significance of the term “Commencement” over “Graduation.” ”At CUIB, we use the word commencement because today marks not merely what our students have completed, but what they are beginning,” he stated. “We are commissioning them to a new level as innovators, builders, and entrepreneurs.”
He further noted that while many universities provide quality education, CUIB distinguishes itself by instilling a specific set of values. “CUIB is a mindset and a movement,” Anyanwu said. “We produce graduates who do not just sit and complain, but those who are taught how to lead and innovate with faith.”
He concluded by enjoining the students to seek solutions to problems, reject mediocrity, and maintain a firm ethical stance against corruption.
Key takeaways from his address included:
“While connections may get you a job, it is your skills, competence, and values that will keep you there.”
Identify and Network: He urged graduates to build high-value skills to “become so good you cannot be ignored” and to foster networks that define their professional trajectory.
“You are not too young to lead. Think like a builder and take ownership, for you are the plan.

Valedictorian Honors and Institutional Appreciation
The Valedictorian, Rita Tamanjon, who earned a First Class degree in Accountancy, expressed profound gratitude for the holistic training provided by CUIB. ”CUIB has given us more than just an education; it has equipped us with the skills to create jobs and adapt to a changing landscape,” Tamanjon said. In a gesture of appreciation, she presented the senior class gift to the university on behalf of her peers.

The ceremony also featured the presentation of prizes to students who demonstrated outstanding academic and moral excellence. Closing the event, the Chancellor and Pro-Chancellor of CUIB, His Lordship Michael Bibi, extended his gratitude to the parents for their trust in the institution. He also commended the faculty and staff for their dedication to empowering students with the tools necessary to thrive in and contribute to society.
