The Catholic University Institute of Buea (CUIB) Bonaberi-Douala Campus Convocation Ceremony featured strong calls for student discipline and entrepreneurial initiative.
Rev. Fr. Bartholomew Anyanwu, President of CUIB, called upon the students to respect the school rules and regulations. He added that students should be conscious of the efforts made by their parents and guardians in sending them to CUIB.
Rev.Fr. Anyanwu emphasized the need for effective presence in class, noting that it is essential for students to “grab the knowledge they need.” Furthermore, he called on students to dress decently, stating it is a sign of responsibility.
The ceremony’s guest speaker, Dr. Monono Eyole Nganje, began by thanking the students for choosing CUIB, recognizing it as one of the best entrepreneurial universities in Africa.
Dr. Monono titled his academic discussion, “Disrupt, Innovate, and Lead: The Mindset of Tomorrow’s Entrepreneurs.”
He enjoined the students to run for knowledge, not just certificates. He noted that CUIB is a place where minds are shaped through initiatives like the Entrepreneurial Academic Trade Fair, Guest Speaker events, Bootcamps, and others.
According to Dr. Monono, CUIB is a place that will help them become job creators in a world where unemployment is very high. He urged the students to:
Be courageous.
Dream big.
He added that the students should embrace accountability.
Be ready at all times.
He concluded by advising them that they should not wait for opportunities, but should create them.
