<p style=”text-align: justify left;”>The First Student presidential debate for the 2017/2018 School year of the Catholic University Institute of Buea, took place on Friday 27, October 2017 at the main campus of CUIB with three parties taking the center stage; they are EOC, Progress Alliance, and the Saints and Scholars parties.
The event had in attendance the President of CUIB Rev. Fr. Dr. George Nkeze, faculties and staff members and students of CUIB who all came to experience one of CUIB’s flagship traditions aimed at bringing out the leadership skills of Students, in a school that believes so much in training professional leaders in Entrepreneurship.
CUIB being an American modeled University; it will not be indifferent in practicing and preaching the value of democracy which is one of the key values of universities in the United States of America.
The President Rev. Fr. Dr. George Nkeze is of the opinion that good entrepreneurs are good leaders. Hence students must not only be trained on education, entrepreneurship but must be given the chance to exhibit their leadership skills in a democratic manner that suits the world stage while in school.
The nominees for the position of President in the STUGA government for the 2017-2018 school year are Ombele Marlon Anyene representing Saints and Scholars, Kemgji Tsem-Tsem representing Progress Alliance and Diekn Djuisse Lesly M. for the EOC party.
Addressing the students, faculty and staff before the debate, the President of CUIB, Rev. Fr. Dr. George Nkeze told the students that they must be vigilant in selecting their leaders so as not to make mistakes because if they chose a good leader it will help to bring positive changes in the student government of CUIB
‘A good leader will protect your interest and will contribute to the growth of the University. But if you don’t select a good leader we are heading for destruction because the leader will not deliver.’’ Rev. Fr. Dr. George Nkeze said.
The over 30 minutes heated debate had lots of emotions, tension and astonishments on the faces of the audience who were very happy with the debate and the delivery by the students.
The great performances of the three Presidential aspirants took everyone by surprise as people could not know who to support any more due to their brilliant performances during the debate as the nominees all proved their competence in handling issues as far as their manifesto are concern.
The second Student Presidential Debate has been scheduled for Monday 30th October 2017.</p>
